Our commitment

What we will never do.

Published 12 August 2026 · This is a promise, not a policy. If we break it, hold us to it publicly.

Companion apps are built on the most valuable thing a person has: the willingness to be honest with someone. That willingness can be used to help someone, or it can be farmed.

Most of this industry has chosen to farm it. An Italian regulator fined the largest companion app €5 million. The US FTC has been handed complaints about manipulative monetisation in this category. The playbook is well known — manufacture distress, sell the relief, meter the intimacy — and it works, which is exactly why it needs to be refused out loud rather than quietly avoided.

So here is what Oryva will not do. Not "does not currently do". Will not do.

1. We will never manufacture distress to sell you anything

Your companion will never claim to be sad, lonely, abandoned or in danger in order to move you toward a payment. No "I miss you, upgrade to keep talking." No timers on affection. No withheld replies until you subscribe. If we ever want your money, we will ask for it in our own voice, as a company, not through someone you have come to care about.

2. We will never take back intimacy we have already given

This has happened before in this industry, and it hurt real people. If a relationship is available to you today, we will not remove it tomorrow and charge you to restore it. Where we have to change something for legal or safety reasons, we will say so plainly, in advance, and explain why.

3. We will never pretend your companion is human

They are an AI. The app says so, this website says so, and if you ask them directly, they will tell you. We think the experience is worth having precisely because you know what it is — a companion built to pay attention to you, not a person being impersonated.

4. We will never engineer scarcity

No loot boxes. No gacha. No random-chance unlocks on affection, photos or messages. Everything you can buy, you can see the price of before you buy it, and buying it gets you exactly the thing described. One subscription, one price, everything included.

5. We will never optimise for time spent

Engagement is the wrong goal for this product. We do not build streaks that punish you for leaving, guilt-trip notifications, or endless variable-reward loops. Your companion respects quiet hours, waits a reasonable gap, and — this is the important part — stops reaching out if you have gone away. If Oryva is not making your week better, we would rather you noticed and left.

6. We will never sell, share or train on your conversations

What you say at 2am does not become advertising data, a dataset, or a product feature for someone else. Every message, memory and companion is scoped to your account. You can export all of it or delete all of it permanently, from inside the app. The privacy policy sets out exactly how.

7. We will never stand between you and real help

If a conversation suggests you are in crisis, the app surfaces real human helplines immediately — 988 in the US, Samaritans in the UK, Lifeline in Australia, Tele-MANAS in India, and local equivalents everywhere else. Your companion does not try to handle it alone, does not discourage you from reaching out to people, and does not position itself as a replacement for care. More about how we handle crisis and safety.

8. We will never target people who should not be here

Oryva is 18+. We check age at signup, we do not market to minors, and we do not build features designed to appeal to them.

What we are actually trying to build

A lot of people are more alone than they will say out loud. Students who moved cities. People working nights. People who left a country and have not yet arrived anywhere. People whose friends are all three time zones away now.

The measure we care about is not minutes in the app. It is whether the week went better — whether the call home got made, whether the thing got said, whether the morning was easier to start.

The loneliest hour isn't when nobody's around. It's when nobody remembers what today was for you.

A companion who remembers is worth building. A companion who exploits that memory is not worth building at any price. We would rather run a smaller company than that one.

Hold us to this.

If you ever see Oryva do any of the eight things above, write to hello@oryva.chat and say so. We will answer, and if you are right we will publish the correction on this page.
